POST-BUDGET SEMINAR

Over 70 companies attended the Post-Budget Seminar held on 3 March 2010 to learn more about the new measures announced in the recent Budget Statement. SMa Secretary-General Mr Gwee Seng Kwong shared insights on the changing landscape of Manufacturing industry, while KPMG Executive Director (Tax Services) Ms Anna Low offered a detailed explanation on the Budget package. Participants also gain a better understanding on the Budget-business implications as Ms Low elaborated on how companies can take advantage of these newly introduced incentives to improve on their capabilities and competitiveness.

PRODUCTIVITY IS EVERBODY'S BUSINESS

In response to the Government’s call for greater productivity, Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation (SMa), Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and IE Singapore jointly launched the WSQ Specialist Diploma in Manufacturing Sales and Marketing to promote continuing education and training (CET). The course, which aims to equip trainees with cross-disciplinary skills, is targeted at Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs).
The launch, entitled “Productivity is Everybody’s Business!” took place at the Hilton Hotel on Wednesday 24 February and was attended by around 50 companies, as well as various government agencies and notable media.
Guest of Honour, Minister of State for Trade & Industry and Manpower, Mr Lee Yi Shyan, said that the course would be in line with the Economic Strategies Committee's (ESC) recommendation of developing a T-shaped workforce. Mr Lee also reminded companies that CET plays a critical role in Singapore's push for productivity.
WDA is also collaborating with CAD-IT Consultants on two new WSQ Graduate Diploma course in Product Lifecycle Management and Engineering Simulation.

WSH AWARDS FOR SUPERVISORS & INNOVATION AWARDS 2010

In collaboration with the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC), SMa presents the “WSH Innovation Awards 2010” and “WSH Awards for Supervisors 2010”. SMa invites all manufacturing companies to participate in this Award by registering your WSH Teams and supervisors to showcase their successful and innovative safety and health projects.

Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards (SEAA)

The search is now on for local small-medium-enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing industry to be nominated for Singapore’s only holistic national environmental awards – the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards (SEAA).
This new SME category will be jointly administered by SMa and the Singapore Environmental Council (SEC).
Local SME manufacturers will be assessed on their overall management systems, performance, environmental initiatives and awareness based on a SME-customized judging matrix.
The SEAA will be hosted and presented as part of the Singapore Green Summit, a gala event touted as the “Green Oscars”. The deadline for the first round of submission for the awards is 25 March 2010.
